Barry junior Marco Mokrzycki has been named Sunshine State Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Week.
Mokrzycki (Hannover, Germany) notched a pair of #1 singles and #2 doubles victories in a week that saw the No. 3 Buccaneers post a 2-1 record against three ranked foes. In a 6-0 win over No. 15 St. Edwards, Mokrzycki joined Leo Vivas, with whom he forms the No. 13 Division II doubles duo, for an 8-5 win over Pedro Bronstrup and James Rogers. He was also leading No. 30 Ned Boone 6-3, 5-2 in singles when the match was halted because the Bucs locked up the winning point. Despite his team’s 5-4 setback to No. 11 Hawaii Pacific, Mokrzycki, who is ranked No. 11 in DII singles, upset No. 4 Petr Michnev 6-4, 7-6 (9-7). He then picked up two points in a 5-1 win over No. 19 UC San Diego, taking down Chapman Chan 6-3, 6-2 in singles action and combining with Vivas for an 8-6 doubles decision over Austin West and Devon Sousa.
