NSU's Asuaje & LU's Gibbard Named Baseball Players of the Week

Nova Southeastern's Carlos Asuaje and Lynn's Ryan Gibbard have been named Sunshine State Conference Baseball Players of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Nova Southeastern sophomore 2B Carlos Asuaje (Weston, Fla.) batted .571 with four runs and three RBI to keep the No. 12 Sharks in the SSC title hunt with three wins last week, including an SSC series victory over No. 7 Lynn. Asuaje had two hits in all four games, posting a .611 on-base percentage from his leadoff spot. He had a double in the Sharks’ 7-6 win over Lynn in the series opener and then blasted a home run in a 6-3 win over the Knights in the finale. He concluded the week with a .857 slugging percentage. He played error-free defense while recording six putouts and 16 assists.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK -- Lynn junior Ryan Gibbard (Loxahatchee, Fla.) tossed a complete-game shutout in the No. 7 Knights’ 5-0 win over No. 12 Nova Southeastern. Pitching the second game of the SSC series, Gibbard scattered five hits and permitted one walk over nine innings. He struck out nine. His outing marked the first nine-inning, complete-game shutout for Lynn since May 1, 2009.
