2012 All-SSC Rowing Team Announced
Fourteen student-athletes have been named to the 2012 All-Sunshine State Conference Rowing Team. Nova Southeastern’s Varsity 8 was named Boat of the Year, while Shark first-year head coach Mary Lenington was selected Coach of the Year.
Named to the All-SSC Rowing Team were: Kristina Boncheva (Barry), Lauren Boudreau (Nova Southeastern), Victoria Ciccone (Nova Southeastern), Renee Forcier (Barry), Helene Pierre (Barry), Aline Seekins (Florida Tech), Guinevere Shaw (Florida Tech), Taylor Van Horn (Nova Southeastern), and coxswain Caroline Kelly (Nova Southeastern).
Five student-athletes were also named to the All-Freshman/Novice Team. Honorees were: Remi McClellan (Nova Southeastern), Megan O’Donnell (Nova Southeastern), Kelly Scott (Nova Southeastern), Anastasia Stodolski (Florida Tech), and coxswain Sarah Erickson (Nova Southeastern).
Voting for the All-SSC Rowing Team is conducted among the league's rowing coaches and sports information directors.
The Shark Eight won the SSC title by more than 10 seconds, crossing the finish line with a time of 7:22.60. The crew also beat out six other boats to win the FIRA Championship with a mark of 7:15.2. Most recently competing at the prestigious Aberdeen Dad Vail Regatta, the Shark Eight finished second in the heavyweight eight final, coming in just four seconds behind the top finisher, Mercyhurst.
In her first season at Nova Southeastern, Lenington led the Sharks to their fifth SSC Championship in program history. Her squad swept both events at the conference regatta, taking the Varsity 4 and Varsity 8 races. The NSU Four also took home top honors at the SIRA Championship and the Dad Vail Regatta. Lenington led her team to a berth in the NCAA Rowing Championship, which will be contested May 25-27 in West Windsor, N.J.
