The Sunshine State Conference Student-Athlete Advisory Committee E.L.I.T.E donation competition recently completed its fourth year, with Saint Leo collecting the most items for its charitable organization. The initiative first began at the annual E.L.I.T.E weekend in September of 2008.
The concept of the competition is for each SSC member institution’s Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) to choose an organization to which to donate items. Throughout the year, institutions counted and donated items and reported their counts to the conference office. The goal was to have each institution get involved in its community and donate tangible items that would help its specific organization.
In 2011-12, six SSC institutions participated in the competition. Barry University donated items to Camillus House. Florida Tech donated items to Genesis. Florida Southern College donated items to Talbot House Ministries. Lynn University doanted to AnySoldier.com, while Rollins College donated items to Orlando Christian Rescue Mission's Second Harvest Food Bank. This year's competition winner, Saint Leo University, donated items to Catholic Charities of Dade City. The total number of items donated to the six organizations added up to 12,544.
