Stephen Frazier-Wong Joins NSU Staff as Head Rowing Coach
Nova Southeastern Director of Athletics Michael Mominey announced that Stephen Frazier-Wong has been named head coach of the NSU women’s rowing program. Frazier-Wong becomes the third head coach since the program began in 2004.
“I am proud to welcome Stephen as the newest member to our coaching staff,” Mominey said. “He brings a wealth of experience in building competitive crews and student-athlete development to NSU. We look forward to him building on the competitive tradition that has already been established and taking the Sharks rowing program to the next level."
"I am excited to become a part of such a dynamic institution as Nova Southeastern University," Fraizer-Wong said. "I look forward to working with our exceptional student-athletes, coaches, staff and faculty as we strive to achieve excellence in the classroom and on the water."
Frazier-Wong comes to NSU after seven years at UNC-Chapel Hill. He started out as an assistant coach in 2005 working primarily with the Tar Heels novice crew. In 2009, he was promoted to associate head coach. Frazier-Wong also assisted with the Carolina Rowing summer camps while at Chapel Hill.
Frazier-Wong is no stranger to the Sunshine State Conference, having rowed and coached for SSC rival Rollins. He picked up a pair of SSC Championships during his time with the Tars. The first SSC title came in 1998 as a student-athlete during what was just the second year in which the conference hosted a championship for rowing. As an assistant coach, Frazier-Wong helped lead the Tars to the 2002 SSC Championship.
The 2002 season also represented the first of back-to-back third-place finishes for Rollins at the NCAA Division II Championships.
A 2012 Rollins College Sports Hall of Fame inductee, Frazier-Wong competed with the U.S.A. Senior National Team from 2002-05. Racing in the lightweight men’s double in 2002, his boat placed 10th at the FISA World Cup in Lucerne, Switzerland and 18th at the FISA World Championships in Seville, Spain. The next two seasons, Frazier-Wong competed in the lightweight men’s quad boat, placing sixth in 2003 and fourth in 2004 at the FISA World Championships.
From 2009-11, Frazier-Wong also spent his summers as the head coach of the USRowing Boy’s Junior National Team Development Sculling Camp in Saratoga Springs, N.Y.
