Nolan Padgett Named SSC Men's Basketball Assignor of Officials
WINTER PARK, Fla. (Men’s Basketball) – Veteran men’s basketball official Nolan Padgett has been hired by the Sunshine State Conference to serve as the Men’s Basketball Assignor of Officials. Padgett will be responsible for the selection, evaluation and assignment of all men’s basketball officials for every game hosted by an SSC member school.
Padgett, who will begin his duties immediately, takes over for JB Caldwell who has now taken a position in officiating development with the National Basketball Association.
“It is very exciting for us to have Mr. Padgett serving in the assignor role for us,” said SSC Commissioner Jay Jones. “Nolan has been a consummate professional on the floor as a conference referee. We are positive that the respect he earned in that role from the officials and the coaches will carry over into his new role.”
Padgett brings over two decades of collegiate officiating experience, including the past 20 years with the SSC, to his new position. During his officiating stint with the SSC, Padgett worked multiple conference tournaments and several semifinal games. Known as one of the SSC’s top officials, Padgett worked a total of six SSC Championship Games.
“I was fortunate enough to work on the floor in this conference for 20 years and now I’m honored to be selected as the new assignor for the Sunshine State Conference,” said Padgett. “I want to thank JB Caldwell because he left this group of officials on solid ground. The future is bright, our senior leadership is strong and our young officials are very talented. The assignor has changed, but the goals as an organization have not and that is to be the best group of officials in the country. I look forward to our upcoming season and I look forward to continuing the tradition of placing talented and high performing officials on the floor for our basketball games.”
A resident of Tampa, Fla., Padgett has worked all levels of collegiate basketball. He served on the officiating crew for multiple Division II South Regional tournaments, and officiated the 2009 Division II Elite Eight in Springfield, Mass. In 2006, Padgett officiated the NJCAA National Championships in Wichita, Kan. From 2001-04, he also worked Division I games, primarily for the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference (MEAC).
Padgett also has the experience needed off the court. On the administrative side of officiating, Padgett has been the assignor of officials for all 250 high schools in Tampa for the previous three years. He also served as President of the West Coast Officials Association for six years, from 2002-08.
A native of Tampa, Fla., Padgett is a 1987 graduate of the University of Florida. He has served as the Assistant Vice President of Business Banking at Regions Bank in Tampa, Fla., and is now the Corporate Vice President of Sales for New York Life.
