FSC's Thompson Earns Final Men's Basketball Weekly Award
Florida Southern senior forward John Thompson has again been selected as the Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending February 28.
Thompson (West Cola, S.C.) averaged 18.5 points, 9.5 rebounds in a pair of wins that helped lift the No. 11 Moccasins to a share of the SSC regular-season title and the top seed in the upcoming BlueCross and BlueShield of Florida SSC Men’s Basketball Championship. Thompson began the week with 16 points, seven rebounds, and an assist in just 17 minutes of an 85-60 win at Tampa. He then stormed to 21 points, 12 rebounds, two blocks, two steals, and an assist in the Mocs’ 90-82 victory over Nova Southeastern. In two games, Thompson shot 55 percent (12-for-22) from the field and 77 percent (13-for-17) at the charity stripe.
