Barry's Whitfield Powers to Men's Basketball Weekly Award
Barry senior forward Willie Whitfield has been selected Sunshine State Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week for the period ending January 9.
Whitfield (Miami, Fla.) posted two double-doubles in a week in which the Buccaneers went 1-1 with an SSC upset over Florida Southern. Against the Mocs, Whitfield amassed 16 points, 15 rebounds, five blocks, and three assists to propel the Bucs to a 77-55 victory. He began the week by doing his part in a 76-50 loss at Rollins, tallying 18 points, 10 rebounds, two blocks, and one assist. For the week, Whitfield averaged 17.0 points, 12.5 rebounds, 3.5 blocks, and 2.0 assists per contest. He shot a scorching 71 percent (15-of-21) from the field and 100 percent (4-for-4) at the line.
