Barry senior Barbi Pocza has been named Sunshine State Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for the period ending April 10.
Pocza (Gyor Hungary) posted a pair of singles upsets to lead the No. 4 Buccaneers to a 2-1 record against three nationally-ranked opponents. Ranked No. 8 in Division II singles, Pocza played in the top flight in both singles and doubles action. Despite her team’s 6-3 loss to No. 3 Lynn, Pocza posted a 6-2, 6-4 win over No. 7 Magdalena Ekert. She also downed No. 5 Alida Mueller-Wehlau 3-6, 7-6, 6-1 to help the Buccaneers defeat No. 1 Armstrong Atlantic 6-3. She joined Laura Boguet for an 8-3 doubles victory over AASU’s duo of Aleksandra Filipovsk and Barbora Krtickova. Pocza also collected a 6-1, 6-1 win over Dana Burobina in the Buccaneers’ 9-0 sweep at No. 20 Nova Southeastern. She and Boguet defeated Kamryn Blackwood and Oksana Krutiyenko 8-3 in doubles play.
