Nova Southeastern women’s golf alumna Sandra Changkija made her LPGA Tour debut this past weekend, making the cut at the ISPS Handa Women’s Australian Open at the Royal Melbourne Golf Club.
Changkija shot a 75 to open the tournament and had her strongest day on Friday, shooting a 72. She had a weekend-best five birdies in her Friday round. After making the 73-woman cut, Changkija turned in a 77 on Saturday and an 85 in her final round.
Jessica Korda won the tournament, finishing three under par for the weekend. Changkija posted on her official Facebook fan page, “didn't quite finish the way I wanted to, but I learned some things this week about myself and my game.”
Changkija is not scheduled to compete in any of the events scheduled in February and will return to action when the LPGA Tour returns to the United States.
Changkija finished her collegiate career as the most decorated student-athlete in NSU athletics history. She was a four-time NCAA Division II Player of the Year, while she guided the Sharks to three NCAA National Championships. In her 2010 junior season, Changkija won the individual NCAA National Championship at the Longbow Golf Club in Mesa, Ariz.
