Barry's Grace Collins and Florida Southern's Christine Clark have been selected Sunshine State Conference Softball Players of the Week.
PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Barry senior RF Grace Collins (Tampa, Fla.) batted .667 with three runs and three RBI to lead the No. 13 Buccaneers to an SSC sweep at Eckerd. Collins hit safely in all three games and tallied multiple hits in two contests. She had a double as part of a 3-for-4 performance in an 11-1 win in game two. She was also a force on the base paths, going 5-for-5 in steal attempts. Collins concluded the weekend with a .778 slugging percentage and a .750 on-base percentage. She was flawless in the field.
PITCHER OF THE WEEK -- Facing the team that leads every offensive statistical category in the SSC, Florida Southern senior Christine Clark (Naples, Fla.) held strong and helped lift her team to an NCAA tournament bid. Clark picked up two wins with a 0.61 ERA to give the Moccasins a conference series win over No. 14 Rollins. Working all 23 innings of the series, Clark overcame five FSC defensive errors that led to four unearned runs for the Tars. She surrendered just two earned runs on 12 hits with no walks. She struck out 29. Clark’s most impressive outing came in a 3-0 shutout in the opener. She permitted just two hits and fanned 12 batters. In an 8-2 win in the finale, she allowed one earned run on five hits with five strikeouts. The Tars, who boast a .330 team batting average, hit .145 against Clark. Heading into the series, FSC was ranked No. 9 in the NCAA South Region rankings. The Mocs’ wins catapulted them to No. 6 in the final rankings and gave them a spot in the eight-team regional championship.
