2012 All-SSC Women's Golf Team Announced

Twelve student-athletes have been recognized as members of the 2012 All-Sunshine State Conference Women’s Golf Team.  Nova Southeastern’s Abbey Gittings was named Golfer of the Year, and teammate Daniela Ortiz was selected Freshman of the Year.  Lynn’s Daniel Randolph was chosen Coach of the Year.

Named to the All-SSC First Team with Gittings and Ortiz were:  M.J. Audette (Florida Southern), Irene Calvo (Lynn), and Liliana Cammisa (Nova Southeastern).

Garnering all-conference second-team honors were:  Taylor Babcock (Barry), Jessica Bradley (Lynn), Megan Kiley (Florida Southern), Fabia Rothenfluh (Rollins), and Samantha Smolen (Lynn).

Florida Tech’s Jessica Hook and Rollins’ Kayla Sciupider received honorable mention.

Voting for the All-SSC Women’s Golf Team was conducted among the league’s women golf coaches and sports information directors.

A junior from Tamworth, England, Gittings rolled to eight top-five finishes this season, including a pair of individual victories.  She finished first at the Lady Falcon Invitational and the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational.  She was also the runner-up in a Division I-heavy field at Georgetown’s Hoya Invitational.  Gittings tied for fourth at the SSC Championship.  Over 26 rounds of play, she posted a 75.42 stroke average.

Making her debut from Morelia, Mexico, Ortiz tallied a 76.08 stroke average over 26 rounds.  She notched eight top-10 finishes, including five top-five performances and one win.  Her individual victory came at the NSU Shark Invitational.  She placed second at the SSC Championship and the Peggy Kirk Bell Invitational.

In just his first season at Lynn, Randolph led the Fighting Knights to a top-five finish in nine of the 10 events in which they competed.  His squad won the team title at the Flagler Fall Slam, Kiawah Island Intercollegiate, and the Embry-Riddle Invitational.  The Knights finished second at the SSC Championship, just one stroke behind champion Nova Southeastern.  Lynn is ranked No. 7 in the latest Golf World/NGCA Women’s Golf Poll.  Randolph’s squad is preparing to compete in the NCAA Division II South Regional May 6-8 in Pace, Fla.
