Saint Leo's Gina Schifano and Barry's Patrick Rittenauer have been selected Sunshine State Conference Tennis Players of the Week for the period ending March 2.
![]() | WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Saint Leo sophomore Gina Schifano (Tampa, Fla.) posted a perfect 8-0 record in singles and doubles action as the Lions went 2-2 and faced three ranked opponents last week. Playing at #5 singles and #3 doubles, she posted a 6-0, 7-5 win over No. 28 Tampa’s Ally Wooten in a 9-0 SLU victory. She also teamed with Veronica Queen for an 8-2 doubles win over Wooten and Lisa Montgomery. In a 6-3 loss to No. 8 Nova Southeastern, Schifano downed Miranda Falzone 6-2, 6-0 in singles and joined Queen for an 8-4 doubles win over Falzone and Elena Vahl. Despite a 7-2 team setback to No. 4 Lynn, she posted a 6-2, 7-5 singles victory over Christine Johnstone and teamed with Queen for an 8-4 doubles win versus Johnstone and Katie Dombrowski. |
![]() | MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Barry senior Patrick Rittenauer (Offenau, Germany) won all five of his matches in a week that saw the No. 7 Buccaneers go 2-1. Opening the week with an 8-0 win over Florida Tech, Rittenauer teamed with Ales Svigelj for an 8-3 doubles win. In a 7-2 win over No. 10 Rollins, he posted a 3-6, 6-2, 6-2 win over Adrian Tan at #3 singles and teamed with Svigelj for an 8-5 win over 13th-ranked Brian Compton and Jonathan Gomez in #1 doubles. Though his team dropped a close 5-4 decision to No. 3 West Florida, Rittenauer chalked a 6-4, 6-3 singles win over Luiz Bernardi and teamed with Svigelj for an 8-5 doubles win against Eduardo Cavasotti and Carlos Zamora. |
