Tampa's Jessica Tejas and Florida Southern's Brittany Minton have been chosen Sunshine State Conference Softball Player and Pitcher of the Week for the period ending March 9.
![]() | PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Tampa sophomore outfielder Jessica Tejas (Land O’Lakes, Fla.) collected some impressive numbers in leading the Spartans to a three-game SSC sweep against Eckerd. Tejas went 5-for-6 (.833) at the plate, with four of her five hits coming in the form of extra-base hits. In an 8-0 win in the opener, she was 2-for-2 with a double and a home run. In a 4-1 win in game two, she went 2-for-3 with a double and a triple. In a 12-4 win in the finale, she recorded a hit in her lone at-bat. Tejas concluded the series with four RBI, four runs, an eye-popping 2.000 slugging percentage, an .800 OBP, and a flawless 1.000 fielding percentage. |
![]() | PITCHER OF THE WEEK -- Florida Southern junior Brittany Minton (Bainbridge, Ga.) did not allow a single run in two road wins. Pitching 12.0 innings, she scattered six hits and struck out 11. In a 6-0 win over Delta State, she surrendered just two hits with no walks and seven strikeouts. In a 5-1 victory against North Alabama, Minton allowed four hits with no walks and four strikeouts. She retired 15 consecutive batters in one stretch of the contest. |
