For the second week in a row, the Division II Volleyball Player of the Week is a member of a Sunshine State Conference team. Valia Petrova, a senior setter for Nova Southeastern University, has been named the Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week. She earns the award after leading her team to a pair of wins last week, including an upset of then-No. 24 Saint Leo.
Petrova (Sofia, Bulgaria) started the week by helping her team to a 3-0 win over Florida Tech. In the match, she dished out 34 assists, while also getting six kills, five digs and two blocks. In her next match, she distributed 43 assists, while getting six kills, four digs and a block in a tough four-set loss to then-No. 6 Florida Southern. She then helped her team rebound strong, as she scored a triple-double with 42 assists, 11 kills and 11 digs in the Sharks 3-1 upset of Saint Leo. She also added three aces and three blocks in the victory.
For the week, Petrova, who becomes the first athlete from Nova Southeastern to earn Sports Imports/AVCA Division II Player of the Week honors, averaged 10.82 assists, 2.09 kills and 1.83 digs per set. She also earned Sunshine State Conference Player of the Week honors for her standout week.
