Rollins' Luthra and Clausen Selected Tennis Players of the Week
Rollins' Roshni Luthra and Neil Clausen have received Sunshine State Conference Tennis Player of the Week recognition for the period ending April 12.
WOMEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Rollins sophomore Roshni Luthra (Mumbai, India) picked up four wins in a pair of victories over ranked opponents. Opening the week with a 9-0 win over NAIA No. 10 Embry-Riddle, Luthra claimed a 4-6, 6-2, 11-9 #1 singles win over Natasa Zoricic, who is ranked No. 7 in NAIA singles. She also teamed with Holly Fleming for an 8-5 #1 doubles win over Zoricic and Hana Im. Wrapping up the week with a key 6-3 SSC win over No. 13 Barry, Luthra led the No. 7 Tars with a 6-1, 6-4 victory over Angie Werschel in the top singles slot. Werschel entered the match as the No. 8 ranked singles player in Division II, while Luthra was ranked No. 10. She also joined Fleming for an 8-2 decision over Mei-Jing Ang and Laime Contreras at #2 doubles.
MEN'S TENNIS PLAYER OF THE WEEK -- Rollins freshman Neil Clausen (Longboat Key, Fla.) notched five wins as the No. 15 Tars went 3-0 for the week. Kicking things off with an 8-1 conference win at Saint Leo, Clausen chalked a 6-3, 6-1 win over Yves Jacobs at #1 singles. He also teamed with Gustavo Carvalho for a 9-8 #1 doubles victory over Jacobs and Richard Machlachlan. In an 8-1 win over Oneonta State, Clausen earned a 6-0, 6-2 victory over Matt Steinhauser in the #2 singles position. He and Carvalho again teamed on an 8-0 #2 doubles win over Adam Shapiro and Josh Slifkin. Rounding out the week with a 6-3 victory at No. 35 Flagler, Clausen tallied a 6-2, 6-2 win over Harry Snoxell at #3 singles.
