Florida Southern Wins NCAA Women's Golf South Region Championship; Moccasins to be Joined by Rollins at NCAA Championships; Nova Southeastern's Maria Garcia-Austt and Florida Tech's Daniela Iacobelli Qualify for Nationals as Individuals Host Florida Southern (906) shot a final-round 295 to edge second-place Rollins (911) by five strokes and claimed the NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Region Championship in Lakeland. Nova Southeastern (929) finished fourth, Barry (940) placed fifth and Lynn (941) finished sixth. As the top two teams, Florida Southern and Rollins will advance to the Women's Division II Championship May 9-12 at Stonebrook Golf Club in Pensacola, Fla. Nova Southeastern's Maria Garcia-Austt and Florida Tech's Daniela Iacobelli will also move onto the nationals as the top two individuals not with an advancing team from the regional. Garcia-Austt tied Rollins' Laura Fourdraine for first-place at 220, while Iacobelli finished fourth at 225. The All-SSC Men's Tennis Team was announced May 1. Florida Southern's Michael Knoedler was selected SSC Men's Tennis Player of the Year. Five SSC Teams to Compete in Women's Golf South Regional; Florida Southern to Host Event Five SSC teams will carry the conference banner in the NCAA Division II Women's Golf South Regional, which will be hosted by Florida Southern Monday, April 30 - Wednesday, May 2. The event will be contested at The Club at Eaglebrook in Lakeland. Florida Southern, Rollins, Lynn, Nova Southeastern, and Barry will be joined by West Florida, the only non-conference member in the regional field. Four SSC Teams to Compete in Men's Golf South/South Central Super Regional
Four SSC teams have received bids to compete in the NCAA Division II Men's Golf South/South Central Super Regional in Florence, Ala., Monday, May 7 - Wednesday, May 9. Barry, Florida Southern, Lynn, and Nova Southeastern will carry the SSC banner in the eight-team field. Additionally, Eckerd's C.J. Denmark, Rollins' Jeff Golden, and Florida Tech's Justin Regier were invited to compete for the individual title. The 54-hole event will feature 18 holes on each of the three days of competition. The top team from the South Region and the top individual not on one of the 16 super regional teams will advance to the Men's Division II Championship May 22-25 at The Meadows in Allendale, Mich. Nine SSC Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Highlight the April 27 ITA Rankings
A total of nine SSC men's and women's tennis were rewarded with places in the latest ITA team rankings, which were released on Friday, April 27. Five SSC women's teams and four SSC men's teams appeared in their respective national rankings. On the women's side, nationally-ranked teams included Lynn (#3), Nova Southeastern (#8), Florida Southern (#11), Barry (#13), and Rollins (#14). Six SSC men's golf teams and five SSC women's golf teams have earned places in the latest national coaches polls. On the men's side, Florida Southern held down the #2 ranking in the Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches Poll Top 25 (4/25), while Barry (T5), Nova Southeastern (T5), Lynn (#17), Florida Tech (#19), and Eckerd (#22) also cracked the poll. Rollins received votes. In the women's Golf World/NGCA Coaches Poll, which was updated April 19, the SSC held down the top three spots with Florida Southern at #1, Rollins at #2, and Lynn at #3. Lynn Posts Sweep at SSC Men's and Women's Tennis Championships For the second straight year, Lynn swept both titles at the SSC Men’s and Women’s Tennis Championships, hosted by the University of Tampa at the City of Tampa Tennis Complex on the campus of Hillsborough Community College. In the men's championship match, top-seed Lynn downed #4 Rollins 5-0 to claim the crown. In women's action, #1 Lynn defeated #2 Nova Southeastern 5-1 to win the championship. Consolation matches were also played on Saturday. A complete list of results can be found on the SSC Scoreboard. All nine SSC institutions were represented at the Championships, as teams from Barry, Eckerd, Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Lynn, Rollins and Saint Leo will competed for the men’s championship, while Nova Southeastern and Tampa joined the mix for the women’s title. All seven men's teams and the top eight women's teams qualified for the SSC Championships. Saint Leo and Eckerd won a three-way coin flip over Florida Tech to secure the final two women's spots, as head-to-head play and regional ranking did not break the three-way deadlock. Florida Southern Wins SSC Women's Golf Championship; Nova Southeastern Claims Men's Golf Title
For the second time in as many years, the Nova Southeastern men's golf team won the SSC Men's Golf title, firing a final-round 294 to rise to the top after sitting in a three-way tie for third following the first day of competition. On the women's side, Florida Southern won its first SSC Women's Golf Championship since 2002, carding a final-round 302 to rise from a fourth-place standing after yesterday's first two rounds of competition. Men's medalist honors went to Florida Tech's Anthony Klingensmith, who shot a 218 (69-75-74) to lead the pack. Florida Tech also took home women's medalist honors, as Daniela Iacobelli (80-73-73=226) held off Nova Southeastern's Maria Garcia-Austt (81-70-75=226) in four playoff holes to secure the top spot. In men's action, Florida Tech finished second, followed by Barry (3rd) and Tampa (4th). Florida Southern and Lynn tied for fifth, while Rollins finished seventh, followed by Saint Leo (8th) and Eckerd (9th). In women's action, Rollins claimed second place, while Lynn and Nova Southeastern tied for third. Barry finished fifth, followed by Florida Tech (6th) and Saint Leo (7th). Eckerd fielded a team but did not complete the tournament. Host Nova Southeastern Wins SSC Rowing Championship The Tampa Bypass Canal in Tampa, Florida, was the site of the 2007 SSC Women’s Rowing Championships on Saturday, April 14. Nova Southeastern placed first in both the Varsity 4 and 8 events to win the championship. Florida Tech finished second, while Barry placed third. Tampa finished fourth, and Rollins came in fifth. Teams were competing for not just the SSC championship, but for a chance to improve their regional boat and team standings prior to the NCAA Women’s Championships, which will be conducted May 25-27 in Oak Ridge, Tennessee. SSC Men's and Women's Golf Championships Tee Off Monday in Viera; Florida Tech Will Host Both 54-Hole, Two-Day Events The 2007 SSC Men’s and Women’s Golf Championships, hosted by Florida Tech, will be played next Monday and Tuesday at Duran Golf Club in Viera, Florida. SSC Recognizes Silver Anniversary Team in Softball
A total of 31 student-athletes representing seven different institutions were selected for the Sunshine State Conference Silver Anniversary Softball Team, it was announced on Tuesday, April 3. Florida Southern College led all institutions with 14 student-athletes, while Barry University claimed six spots, Florida Tech, Rollins College and Saint Leo University each placed three former student-athletes on the squad. Lynn University was represented by two student-athletes, while Eckerd College had one. Voting for the team, which recognizes the Conference’s first quarter century of softball, was conducted among the athletic directors at each of the SSC’s nine member institutions. In addition to selecting the Silver Anniversary Team, voters also selected the top player, the top pitcher and the top coach of the SSC’s first quarter century of women's basketball. Florida Southern Softball Coach Chris Bellotto Earns 1,000th Career Win on Friday, March 16
SSC Hall of Famer Chris Bellotto earned the 1,000th victory of her collegiate coaching career as the Mocassins opened the 2007 FSC Spring Invitational with a 2-0 win over Bryant University on Friday, March 16. Bellotto joined select company with the win, becoming only the 10th coach in NCAA history (in any division) with 1,000 career victories. The Lakeland native and Florida Southern graduate helped found the program as a club sport in 1979, guided it through the beginnings of NCAA sponsorship in the early 1980’s, and has since led the team to 21 conference titles, the most of any Division II school in the country. Seven of those have resulted in regional titles as well, including a national championship in 1993, and a pair of national runner-up finishes. more

Ten SSC Men's and Women's Golf Teams Earn Places in National Polls
Six SSC men's golf teams and four SSC women's golf teams have earned places in the latest national coaches polls. On the men's side, Florida Southern held down the #2 ranking in the Golf World/NIKE Golf Coaches Poll Top 25 (3/14), while Barry (#3), Nova Southeastern (#11), Lynn (#13), Eckerd (#18), and Florida Tech (#25) also cracked the poll. In the women's Division II Coaches Poll, Florida Southern weighed in at #1, Lynn placed #2 and Rollins was #3, while Barry appeared at #9.

Eckerd Drops Heartbreaker to Montevallo in NCAA DII South Region Men's Basketball Final
South Region Player of the Year Marcus Kennedy drained a 45-foot three-pointer at the buzzer to lift top-seed and host Montevallo to a 64-61 win over #6 Eckerd in the South Region Final on Tuesday. Eckerd's Craig Hazel had tied the game with a pair of free throws with 2.4 seconds remaining in the contest before Kennedy's miracle shot won the game for Montevallo. 10 SSC Men's and Women's Tennis Teams Land in March 9 ITA Rankings
A total of 10 SSC men's and women's tennis were rewarded with places in the ITA team rankings, which were released on Friday, March 9. Six SSC women's teams and four SSC men's teams appeared in their respective national rankings. On the women's side, nationally ranked teams included Lynn (#3), Barry (#15), Nova Southeastern (#17), Rollins (#20), Florida Southern (#22) and Tampa (#27). Nationally ranked men's teams included Barry (#6), Florida Southern (#7), Lynn (#8) and Rollins (#16). Tampa Women and Eckerd Men Capture 2007 SSC Basketball Championships
Sunday afternoon at Lynn University in Boca Raton, #3 seed Tampa defeated #1 seed Rollins 68-66 in overtime to win the 2007 SSC Women's Basketball Championship, while #3 seed Eckerd topped #1 seed Rollins 67-53 to win the 2007 SSC Men's Basketball Championship. Tampa's Alexa Kane and Eckerd's Matt Cenatus were named Most Outstanding Player in the respective tournaments. The Tampa women and the Eckerd men have earned automatic bids to the NCAA Championships, while other SSC teams await the official NCAA selection announcement to see if they receive an at-large bid. All-SSC Basketball Teams Announced
Rollins' Jonny Reibel and Florida Tech's Jen Tamilio were selected SSC Men's and Women's Player of the Year, respectively. Barry's Cesar Odio and Florida Tech's John Reynolds were chosen SSC Men's and Women's Coach of the Year, respectively. Saint Leo's Jordan Prais and Florida Southern's Nicolle DiRaimo were named Men's and Women's Freshman of the Year, respectively. Pairings Set for 2007 SSC Basketball Championships; Lynn University to Host Tournaments February 28-March 4
Pairings have been announced for the 2007 SSC Women's and Men's Basketball Championships, which will be hosted by Lynn University in Boca Raton Wednesday, February 28 through Sunday, March 4. Rollins College, co-champions in both the women's and men's divisions will be the #1 seed in both brackets. Women's co-champion Florida Tech and men's co-champion Barry University are the respective #2 seeds. SSC Recognizes Silver Anniversary Team in Women's Basketball
A total of 15 student-athletes representing six different institutions were selected for the Sunshine State Conference Silver Anniversary Volleyball Team, it was announced on Thursday, February 22. Florida Tech led all institutions with four student-athletes, while Florida Southern College, Rollins College and the University of Tampa each placed three former student-athletes on the squad. Barry University and Eckerd College were represented with one former student-athlete apiece. Voting for the team, which recognizes the Conference’s first 25 years of competition in the sport of women's basketball, was conducted among the athletic directors at each of the SSC’s nine member institutions. In addition to selecting the Silver Anniversary Team, voters also selected the top player and top coach of the SSC’s first quarter century of women's basketball.
