Fifteen SSC Baseball Players Taken in the 2015 Major League Baseball Draft
NEW YORK - Following three days and 40 rounds of the 2015 Major League Baseball First Year Player Draft, 15 Sunshine State Conference student-athletes were selected from seven teams.
Austin Allen (Catcher, Florida Tech) went the highest of all SSC baseballers. He was selected in the 4th round by the San Diego Padres, 117th overall. Allen is the highest SSC draft pick since Daniel Tillman (RHP, Florida Southern) was taken 81st overall by the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim in 2010.
Along with Allen, JC Cardenas (Shortstop, Barry) and Jhalan Jackson (Right Fielder, Florida Southern) were selected within the first 10 rounds. Three selections in the first 10 rounds is the most since five were selected in 2010.
Tampa, the 2015 NCAA Division II National Championships, led the way with five players selected. Barry and Nova Southeastern each had three players drafted. Florida Southern, Florida Tech, Lynn, and Saint Leo all had one player chosen. Fifteen draft picks is the highest for the conference since 2011, when 15 athletes were also drafted.
