Rollins has won both the men’s and women’s division of the 2009-10 Sunshine State Conference Mayors’ Cup all-sports trophy.

First presented following the 1986-87 academic year, the award has traditionally been sponsored by the mayors of the nine communities in which SSC member institutions are located.

In the women’s division, points are awarded based on final conference standing in cross country, volleyball, soccer, basketball, golf, tennis, rowing, and softball.  In the men’s division, points are awarded for final standing in cross country, soccer, basketball, golf, tennis, and baseball.  In each category, points awarded depend on the number of conference schools that sponsor the particular sport.

Rollins wins the women’s division for the fifth time in school history and the second year in a row.  The men’s division trophy is the third for Rollins, with the last award coming in 2003-04.

Accumulating 41.0 points, the Rollins women’s sports were bolstered by SSC championships in soccer and softball.  Basketball finished second in the league standings, while golf and tennis took third place at the conference championships.  The Tars logged a sixth-place finish in cross country and were ninth in volleyball.

The Tars edged out second-place Florida Southern, which tallied 39 points in the standings.  Nova Southeastern was third with a total of 37.5 points.  Barry ranked fourth with 36.5 points, while Tampa was fifth with 34.  Saint Leo received 31 points to finish sixth, and Florida Tech placed seventh with 28.5.  Lynn (27) and Eckerd (13.5) rounded out the women’s division standings.

Collecting a total of 37.0 points, the Tar men’s teams were buoyed by a pair of SSC Co-Championships in soccer and basketball.  The baseball team registered a runner-up finish, and men’s tennis placed third at the SSC championship.  Both cross country and golf placed fifth in their respective conference championship events.

Florida Southern finished second in the men’s division with 34 points.  Barry ranked third with 30.5.  Lynn and Nova Southeastern tied for fourth with 27 points each.  Tampa was sixth with a tally of 25.5, while Florida Tech placed seventh with 20.5.  Eckerd (15) and Saint Leo (12.5) claimed the final two spots in the standings.
