Men's Basketball
Yunio Barrueta / Barry University / Forward / Sr. / Miami, Fla.
Barrueta is awarded his second SSC Player of the Week honor after helping Barry to a 85-65 road victory over Florida Southern. Barrueta notched his eighth double-double of the season, scoring 20 points and bringing down 12 rebounds in the win. With his eighth rebound of the game Barrueta recorded his 700th career rebound, fourth best in school history. Barrueta has scored double figures in all games this season and has scored 20 or more in 12 games. The Buccaneers have an overall record of 13-3 and is 6-2 in SSC play.
David Johnson / Lynn University / Forward / Sr. / Stuart, Fla.
Johnson is named this week's SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor after grabbing 10 defensive rebounds in two games for the Fighting Knights. Johnson played 65 minutes and helped the Fighting Knights to a 1-1 record. Lynn dropped an 81-76 decision at home to Palm Beach Atlantic. Johnson had five defensive rebounds, two steals while recording a career- high 27 points at the other end of the court. Johnson helped the Fighting Knights to victory over Florida Southern, 100-89. Johnson had five defensive rebounds, three steals, and one of the team’s two blocks, along with scoring 12 points in 31 minutes of play. FSC’s starting big men were both held under double-digit scoring on the night. The Fighting Knights are 9-8 overall, and 3-6 in SSC play this season.

Women's Basketball
Juliana Cavallaro / University of Tampa / Guard / Sr. / Venice, Fla.
Callavaro earns her first SSC Player of the Week honors this season after guiding Tampa to victories over conference opponents. Cavallaro helped the Spartans win their fourth and fifth consecutive SSC games, after starting 0-4 in the conference. In their 71-45 victory against No. 10 Nova Southeastern, the senior scored 18 points, shooting 80 percent from three-point range. Against the Sharks, Cavallaro also added four assists, came down with three rebounds and one steal. Against Rollins, Cavallaro scored 15 points, two rebounds and two assists as the Spartans won 71-57. Cavallaro has paced the Tampa offense, which has scored at least 70 points in five of their past six games. Tampa is 11-8 overall, 5-4 in SSC play.
Angela Alvarez / University of Tampa / Forward / Sr. / Boynton Beach, Fla.
Alvarez is tabbed SSC Defensive Player of the Week for the second time this season after helping Tampa take down a Top-10 opponent at home. Alvarez was a key player on the defensive end for the Spartans in their upset victory over the No. 10 NSU Sharks, 71-45. Alvarez and the Spartans held NSU to their lowest point total (45) since the 2011-2012 season. Alvarez recorded the double-double as she scored 12 points and brought down 12 rebounds, seven defensive. She also added two steals and a block in the win. Against Rollins the senior pulled down five defensive rebounds and added eight points in a 71-57 victory. Tampa is 11-8 overall, 5-4 in SSC play.
Swimming
Yagoh Kubagawa / Florida Tech / So. / Sao Paulo, Brazil
Kubagawa swims to Florida Tech’s first SSC Swimmer of the Week honors this season. He won two races to help Florida Tech defeat Tampa, 106-99, in the Panthers first ever win against the Spartans. He claimed the 1,000-yard freestyle with an NCAA B-cut time of 9:35.72. Kubagawa then swam the fastest in the 500-yard freestyle in the meet, with a final time of 4:47.26.
Maftuna Tuhtasinova / Saint Leo University / Fr. / Tashkent, Uzbekistan
Tuhtasinova is this week’s SSC Swimmer of the Week following two individual first place finishes against Rollins. Tuhtasinova captured firsts in both the 100 Individual Medley (1:01.52) and the 100 Backstroke (58.31) leading Saint Leo to a 71-15 win over the Tars. Tuhtasinova also swam the opening leg of the 200 Medley Relay to open the meet, posting a time of 27.62 in the 50 Backstroke.
