NSU collects seven All-SSC awards including Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year

MELBOURNE, Fla. - Twenty-seven women's soccer student-athletes have earned All-SSC honors for the 2017 season. Conference champions, Nova Southeastern University, collect seven All-SSC awards including Defensive Player of the Year and Coach of the Year. Voting for the awards was conducted among the league's women's soccer coaches.

Christy Grimshaw of Barry University is selected Player of the Year. The Aberdeen, Scotland native scored six goals and assisted on two others in 11 regular season games for a total of 14 points. The junior midfielder helped pilot the Buccaneers to a 7-1-2 record in conference play and a No. 2 seed in the post-season tournament. Grimshaw is the fifth Buccaneer to be named SSC Player of the Year, the first since 20141.

Barry’s Amanda Traynor earns Offensive Player of the Year following 0.54 goal per game average in 2017. The Glasgow, Scotland product is the first Buccaneer awarded SSC Offensive Player of the Year since Emelie Karlsson swept the award from 2002 to 2005.

Bailey Corbin of Nova Southeastern is named Defensive Player of the Year. The Lampeter, Pennsylvania native appeared in 15 games for the Sharks, helping her squad to 12 wins and a conference title. Corbin is only the second NSU athlete to be named SSC Defensive Player of the Year2.

Nova Southeastern’s John Constable is awarded Coach of the Year by his peers. Constable guided the Sharks to their second SSC Championship3 and first outright regular-season title. The Constable led Sharks are No. 1 in the South Region and will host the SSC post-season tournament semifinals and finals. It is the first SSC Coach of the Year award for Constable, second for Nova Southeastern4.

Freshman of the Year belongs to Adanna Edwards of Nova Southeastern University. The forward from Miami tallied five goals and two assists across 15 games. The SSC Freshman of the Year honor is the second consecutive for NSU, third overall5.

Traynor and Kelly Rowswell of Rollins College repeat as First Team selections from 2016. Traynor also earns All-SSC for the third consecutive year. University of Tampa’s Nastasia Asgedom and Florida Tech’s Kiera McCarthy also earn All-SSC accolades for a third straight year.
