491 Student-Athletes Named to Commissioner's Spring Honor Roll A
total of 491 student-athletes representing all nine SSC member institutions
were named to the Commissioner's Honor Roll for the Spring 2007 semester.
Sixty-nine student-athletes achieved a perfect 4.00 grade point average
for the term. Participants in men's and women's basketball, baseball,
softball, men's and women's tennis, men's and women's golf, and women's
rowing are eligible for the spring honor roll.

Florida Tech President Anthony J. Catanese Named SSC President Anthony
J. Catanese, Ph.D, president of the Florida Institute of Technology,
has been named the president of the Sunshine State Conference for the
2007-08 and 2008-09 academic years. President Catanese will also serve
as chair of the SSC Presidents Council.

All Nine SSC Institutions Appear in U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup
Final Standings for NCAA Division II All
nine SSC schools appeared in the final standings for NACDA's 2006-07
U.S. Sports Academy Directors' Cup. Florida Southern led the way with
a 10th place finish, while Tampa also appeared in the top-20 at No.
19.

Florida Southern's Megan Brown and Lynn's Nicolas Boisvert Named SSC
Athletes of the Year SSC
Softball Pitcher of the Year Megan Brown and Baseball Player
of the Year Nicolas Boisvert were named Sunshine State Conference
Female and Male Athlete of the Year, respectively.
Both players also garnered All-America recognition following stellar

Florida Southern's Megan Brown and Barry's Patrick Rittenauer Tabbed
SSC Scholar-Athletes of the Year Florida
Southern softball pitching ace Megan Brown became just the second
student-athlete to earn both Female Athlete of the Year and Scholar-Athlete
of the Year in the same season. Barry men's tennis standout Patrick
Rittenauer earned Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year distinction.
Both student-athletes posted nearly flawless grade point averages, as
Brown graduated with a 3.97 GPA, and Rittenauer carries a 3.95 average.

SSC Inducts 19 Members to Hall of Fame June 9 The
SSC inducted 19 new members to its Hall of Fame on Saturday, June 9,
at the Hilton in the Walt Disney World Resort. Every SSC institution
with eligible student-athletes, coaches, and administrators is represented
in the 2006-07 class. The 19-member group is the largest since the inaugural

Barry Men, Florida Southern Women Claim 2006-07 SSC Mayors' Cup For
the first time in school history, Barry has won the men's division of
the SSC Mayors' Cup all-sports trophy. Florida Southern wins the women's

WINS NCAA DIVISION II BASEBALL CHAMPIONSHIP FOR SECOND STRAIGHT YEAR
For the second straight year,
the Tampa Spartans are the champions of NCAA Division II baseball. UT
overpowered Columbus State 7-2 to defend its national title and became
the first team to repeat since the Spartans also pulled off the feat
in 1992 and 1993. Chris Rosenbaum led the Spartans in the final game,
going 3-for-5 with two RBI. Closer Jonathan Holt was solid in his role
as a starter, allowing one earned run on six hits with eight strikeouts.
UT concludes its season with a 53-10 record. Tampa's championship caps
off a tremendous season for SSC schools, as league members claimed five

BARRY WINS NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP The
Barry University men's golf team posted a final-round 296 to win the
program's first-ever NCAA Division II Championship Friday afternoon
in Allendale, Michigan. The Buccaneers four-day total of 1186 was one
stroke better than runner-up USC-Upstate (1187) and two strokes ahead
of SSC rival Florida Southern (1188), which claimed third place. Barry's
Hernan Borja carded a final-round 73 to finish in second place with
a four-day total of 291, six strokes behind the leader. Florida Southern
was led by Greg Koch, who shot 71 and finished in a tie for sixth place
at 293. The NCAA team championship was the fourth claimed by a team
from the SSC in the 2006-07 academic year, and increased the SSC's overall
total to 67
NCAA team championships, 16 of which have come in men's golf, more

Nova Southeastern Finishes Fourth at
NCAA Division II Rowing Championship
Nova Southeastern placed fourth in the overall team standings at the
NCAA 2007 Division II Rowing Championship, which concluded Sunday at
Melton Hill Lake in Oak Ridge, Tenn. NSU earned a total of 7 team points,
which placed behind Western Washington (20), UC-San Diego (15) and Dowling
(8). NSU (8:44.83) placed third in the Varsity Four Grand Final, behind
Western Washington (8:08.72) and UC-San Diego (8:14.71). The Sharks
(7:28.30) also finished fourth in the Varsity Eight Grand Final behind
Western Washington (7:03.80), UC-San Diego (7:09.51) and Dowling (7:12.93).
Florida Tech (7:32.76) also concluded its season, placing second in
the Varsity Eight Petite Final behind Seattle Pacific (7:24.93). SATURDAY'S
REPECHAGE EVENTS: In the eights repechage, Nova Southeastern (7:06.01)
placed second, while Florida Tech (7:16.07) claimed fourth place. UC-San
Diego (6:59.11) finished first. In the fours repechage, Nova Southeastern
(8:27.80) was victorious over Dowling (8:38.47). Both NSU boats will
advance to the respective Grand Finals on Sunday, while the Florida
Tech eight will race in the Petite Final. FRIDAY'S PRELIMINARY HEATS:
In the first day of eights competition on Friday, Florida Tech (7:32.17)
placed third in the first heat, 32 seconds behind heat winner Dowling,
while Nova Southeastern (7:23.35) came in second in heat two, 20 seconds

Southeastern (8:54.16) placed second in heat two, 31 seconds behind

LYNN WINS NCAA DIVISION II MEN'S TENNIS
CHAMPIONSHIP The
Lynn men's tennis team darted to a 3-0 lead in doubles and never looked
back, downing Valdosta State 5-1 for the program's first national championship.
The championship is the seventh overall for LU coach Mike Perez, as
the Lynn's women's team has won six NCAA Division II and NAIA national
titles. The Fighting Knights' men's squad concludes its spectacular
season with a program-record 24 wins. In other national championship
action, Barry saw its season come to a close in Thursday's national
quarterfinals, dropping a 5-2 decision to UC-San Diego.

SOUTHERN WINS NCAA DIVISION II WOMEN'S GOLF CROWN;
FLORIDA TECH'S DANIELA IACOBELLI WINS INDIVIDUAL TITLE
For
the eighth straight year, the NCAA Division II Women's Golf Championship
belongs to an SSC institution, as Florida Southern (1188) finished
10 strokes ahead of Rollins (1198) to win the program's fourth women's
golf national title. Individually, Florida Tech's Daniela Iacobelli
fired a four-round score of 293 to finish one stroke ahead of Nova
Southeastern's Maria Garcia-Austt (294) to claim the individual
championship. The event had a distinct SSC flavor, as Florida Southern's
Lindsey Bergeon (295) rounded out the top three, and SSC
golfers held seven of the top eight places. The title is the eight
consecutive crown for SSC schools, as Florida Southern won in 2000,
2001, and 2002 before Rollins reeled off four straight championships
is 2003, 2004, 2005, and 2006.

Tampa Downs Florida Southern to Advance
to NCAA Division II Baseball Championship It
took two games, but top-seeded Tampa
staved off #5 Florida Southern to win the South Region Championship and
advance to the NCAA Division II Baseball Championship for the second consecutive
year. In the first game on Sunday, Florida Southern defeated Tampa 7-0
to force a decisive second game, which the Spartans won 8-5 in 10 innings.
Florida Southern ends it season 44-16, while Tampa (49-10) will partcipate
in the DII
Baseball Championship in Montgomery, Ala., May 25 - June 1. The Spartans
will open play in Montgomery on Friday, May 25 against west region champion
Cal State-Los Angeles (44-15-1). First pitch will be at 6:30 p.m. CT.

Florida Southern Falls to Columbus State
at NCAA Division II Softball National Championship SSC
and South Region champion Florida Southern saw its season come to an end
after a 1-0 loss to top-ranked Columbus State at the
2007 NCAA Division II Softball Championships. The Mocs finish fourth in
the tournament and end their season witha 51-15 record. Three-time SSC
Pitcher of the Year Megan Brown ends her career with 124 wins, third most
in Division II history.

All-SSC Women's Rowing Team Announced The
All-SSC Women's Rowing Team was announced May 17, and four SSC institutions
were represented. Nova Southeastern's Nicole Felluca was selected
SSC Rower of the Year. The Nova Southeastern Varsity 8 was tabbed
SSC Boat of the Year. First-year Florida Tech coach Adam Thorstad

TAMPA
WINS NCAA DIVISION II VOLLEYBALL CHAMPIONSHIP
The University of Tampa defeated North Alabama in
four games (30-25, 27-30, 30-21, 30-17) to win the program's first NCAA
championship. The national title is the 64th
national championship won by a Sunshine State Conference team
since the conference was founded in 1975-76, and the fourth for the
SSC in volleyball, including three in the last six seasons. In earlier
action at the Elite Eight, Tampa posted a four-game semifinal win over
Minnesota-Duluth and posted a three-game sweep of Dowling in the quarterfinals.
All Elite Eight matches were played as part of the NCAA
Division II National Championships Festival, which is being
held in Pensacola, Fla. Printable
