Athletes of the Week are chosen from a pool of nominees for their performances during the week of April 4 - 10, 2016. Athletes are nominated by Sports Information Directors of member institutions.

Baseball

Ben Richardson / Florida Southern College / Sr. / RHP / Orlando, Fla.
Richardson’s eight-inning, one-hit performance for Florida Southern earns him SSC Pitcher of the Week. The Orlando native took a no-hitter into the eighth inning at Rollins on Friday.  He registered six strikeouts and one walk while giving up one hit and an unearned run. Richardson improves his record to 9-1 and is now tied for the NCAA Division II lead in wins. The Moccasins’ are 25-9 overall, 8-4 in SSC Play.

6608JD Osborne / University of Tampa / Jr. / 3B / Whitby, Ontario
Osborne earns SSC Player of the Week honors following a .500 batting average in a three-game series against No. 23 Catawba. The Whitby, Ontario native tallied five runs batted in and seven runs scored in the Spartans sweep. Osborne showed power, blasting two home runs and recording a triple in the rematch of last years NCAA Championship Game. The final game of the series proved to be his best as he went 3-for-4, with three runs scored, and was the back end of back-to-back home runs for the Spartans. Tampa is now 28-6 overall and hold a 10-2 record in SSC play.

Softball

Niki Fogle / Rollins College / Sr. / Pitcher / White House, Tenn.
Fogle is this week's SSC Pitcher of the Week after after picking up her 100th career victory for Rollins. The White House, Tennessee native went 4-0 with a save in six appearances last week. Fogle began the week with a complete game shutout over Palm Beach Atlantic giving up no runs on five hits, walking one and striking out two. In the middle game of a three game set with PBA, Fogle went the distance giving up two runs on nine hits while walking one and striking out four Sailfish. In the Tars only loss on the week, Fogle pitched two-thirds of an inning in relief. She gave up no runs but allowed a double. Fogle’s top performance came in the first game of a three game sweep of Lynn. In her second of three complete game shutouts she gave up no runs on six hits while walking none and striking out 11. In the second game against Lynn, Fogle pitched a four-hit complete game shutout. She then gave up two runs on three hits while striking out one in three innings as Rollins completed the sweep of Lynn. The 6-0 victory over Lynn gave Fogle her 100th career victory. Rollins is now 32-7-1 overall and 13-2 in SSC play.

 6606Tiffany Osmanski / Rollins College / Sr. / RF / Pelion, S.C.
Osmanski is awarded SSC Player of the Week honors after extending her hitting streak to 19 games. Against Palm Beach Atlantic, Osmanski went 4-10 at the plate driving in one, scoring twice and picking up a walk as the number three hitter for the Tars. Rollins took two of three games from the Sailfish (5-0,4-2, 0-4). Her best performance came in the first game of a three game set against Lynn where she went 2-4 at the plate driving in a run, scoring two runs, and hit a homerun in victory over Lynn (5-0). Overall against the Fighting Knights, Osmanski tallied four hits, two RBI, two runs, and a homerun in a sweep of the Fighting Knights (5-0, 6-0, 3-2). Rollins is now 32-7-1 overall and 13-2 in SSC play.

Golf

6603Mateo Gomez / Lynn University / Jr. / Cali, Colombia
Gomez won his third tournament of the year by taking first place at the Buccaneer Invitational. The victory was the fourth of Gomez's career, tying him for first place in school history. Gomez fired a three-round total of 208 and led a field of 89 golfers. Gomez pulled out the win and led the Fighting Knights to a second place team finish against a field that included nine teams ranked in the Golfstat Top-50, five of which are in the Top-25. Gomez now has finished in the Top-10 at 11 different tournaments in his career.

6612Shannon McKew / Florida Southern / Jr. / Cockeysville, Md.
McKew is this week’s SSC Women’s Golfer of the week after posting her first career tournament win. At the West Florida Argonaut Invitational, McKew finished the three-round event in a three-way tie for first with a 226 (75-75-76). As part of a playoff with Hally Leadbetter of Rollins and Bernadette Little of Lee, McKew won the title by sinking a putt from nearly 40 feet for a birdie on the second playoff hole. All three golfers had earlier made par on the first playoff hole. In addition to the win, it was McKew's third top-five finish of the season.


Women's Rowing

6574Varsity 4 Boat / Barry University / Miami Shores, Fla. 
The Buccaneers Varsity 4 won the Knecht Cup for a second consecutive year with a time of 7:38.18. Barry finished over three seconds ahead of runner-up Merrimack in the six-boat final. Barry’s Varsity 4 is composed of Eva Patyi (So.), Jelena Momirov (Jr.), Sara Rus Alba (Sr.), Luna Ugrenovic (Jr.), and coxswain Angela Dasch (Sr.)

Tennis

Ahmed Triki / Barry University / Jr. / Tunis, Tunisia
Triki is named SSC Men’s Tennis Player of the Week for the third time after defeating two nationally-ranked opponents at No. 1 singles. Triki defeated No. 3 Alberto Barroso-Campos of No. 2 Saint Leo (6-4, 6-7 (5-7), 10-3). The Buccaneer Junior defeated No. 14 Marc Hofer of No. 5 Lander (6-2, 6-1) to improve to 11-0 at the No. 1 position and is 5-0 over nationally-ranked opponents and 3-0 in SSC matches. The Tunis, Tunisia native is the No. 4-ranked singles player in the country. Paired with two different partners, Triki was victorious in two doubles matches during the week while falling in two others. No. 7 Barry in now 12-5 overall and 4-1 in SSC matches.

Emma Onila / Barry University / Sr. / Bucharest, Romania
Onila earns SSC Women’s Tennis Player of the Week honors after winning all three of her No. 1 singles matches over the weekend. The Barry senior picked up a victory over No. 2 Natalia Siedliska of third-ranked Saint Leo (7-6 (8-6), 0-6, 6-2). The Bucharest, Romania native also won by a 6-0, 6-0 sweep at Eckerd and clinched the match at No. 31 Embry-Riddle, beating Hui-I Huang, 6-2, 6-3. Onila has a team-high 11 singles wins this year, is 5-0 at No. 1 singles and 5-0 in SSC matches. Onila partnered with Barbora Kijasova and combined to pull out a 9-8 (7-3) win at the No. 1 spot versus Embry-Riddle. Barry is 13-1 overall and 4-1 in SSC matches.


Men's Lacrosse

Morgan Baker / Rollins College / Sr. / Mid / Dummerston, Vt
Baker is awarded SSC Offensive Player of the Week following a five-goal performance at Florida Southern last week. The Dummerston, Vermont native scored his five goals on seven shots on goal, eight total. Baker’s final goal of the day proved to be the game winner as Rollins defeated Florida Southern in Lakeland, 11-10. The Tars own an overall record of 8-4 and are 2-1 in SSC play.

Dave Moore / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Goalkeeper / Lake Mary, Fla.
Moore is awarded his second SSC Defensive Player of the Week honor after his performance against No. 17 Lynn. Moore recorded 13 saves, including 6 in the final quarter, for the Lions as they upset the Fighting Knights on Saturday. The Lake Mary, Florida native had a save-percentage of 72.2% and added two groundballs and one caused turnover. With the win, Moore becomes the Saint Leo career record holder for wins by a goalkeeper with 31. With the 11-5 victory, Saint Leo is now 8-3 on the year, 1-2 in SSC play.

Will Cothron / Saint Leo University / Sr. / Midfielder / Ocala, Fla.
Cothron dominated in faceoffs this past week to win his third SSC Specialist of the Week award. Cothron won 12 of 16 faceoffs for a winning percentage of 75% in a win against No. 17 Lynn. The senior added five ground balls. He now has a 67.3 winning percentage for the season. With the 11-5 victory, Saint Leo is now 8-3 on the year, 1-2 in SSC play.


Women's Lacrosse
6609Emily Santoli / Florida Southern College / So. / Mid / Fort Salonga, N.Y.
Santoli is this week's SSC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the Moccasins to two road victories. The Moccasin sophomore averaged 2.0 goals, 6.5 shots, 2.5 assists and 4.5 points per game while tallying a .308 shooting percentage and .615 shots on goal percentage. Santoli opened the week with three goals, a career-high tying four assists, and seven points on 11 shots against Shepherd. She picked up seven ground balls and had 11 draw controls in the 16-7 win. Santoli recorded a goal and an assist in a 9-4 win over Seton Hill. For the season, Santoli is third on the team in goals with 24, tied for the team lead in assists with 21, and leads the team with 45 points. Florida Southern is now 11-3 overall and 1-0 in SSC play. 

6604Parrisa Sakinejad / Florida Southern College / So. / Defender / Millers, Md.
Sakinejad is this week’s SSC Defensive Player of the Week after helping pace a Moccasin defense that 31 caused turnovers and held its opponents to a total of 11 goals across two games. Sakinejad opened the week with three caused turnovers and one ground ball in the win over Shepherd (16-7). She followed that up with a three caused turnovers and three ground balls in a win over Seton Hill (9-4). Millers, Maryland native picked up four ground balls and caused six turnovers while playing in 120 minutes in Florida Southern’s two victories. Florida Southern is now 11-3 overall and 1-0 in SSC play.
